    ==========MILESTONE REACHED=========

    Hi all

First all sorry for the long time between updates. If you want to stay better updated, then head over to my Facebook page dedicated to this trip (www.facebook.com/getvinnietotheglobe). This is where you should go if you want to stay updated with everything.

However, for those who are stick mainly to this site, be prepared for an update. We have all but one milestone left to reach; the last one. That’s right we have reached Moscow. This has been from a variety of ways, from people donating here, to fundraising activities, to a few scholarship and grants. Whatever way it has been, I just want to thank everybody who has gotten to where I am at the moment, and for supporting me along the way.

However, I am excited to announce that we only have $1000 left to go and I think it’s only right that we celebrate the last efforts that it’ll take to get me to all the way. Therefore, I’ve added a few more checkpoints across Europe ($200 apart) that mark the last steps of the fundraising journey. I’ll be doing regular shout outs and thanks to all those who donate, and special mentions to those who get me to each checkpoint.

With that, I need to give a special shout out to Stephen Fitzjohn as we have reached our first European checkpoint of Minsk. I want to thank you for your generous donation, of which it has enabled me continue on, and I thank you for your kindness.

I also want to thank Fiona, Nita, Glyn and an anonymous person for their donations. Although some might think that their donations are small compared to others, I’ll remind you that every dollar counts. For each dollar that someone donates, it gets me 2km closer to standing on the Globe stage. That’s 2km closer than I was before. So even if you donate $1, it still makes a world of difference in the long run.

If you want to stay updated than please head over to my Facebook page. This is where I regularly update, and where you will be getting the newest information.

See you in the next update.

    Thanks

    Vincent

  • Governor General Performance

      18 December 2016

    Hi all

In case you missed it, this year celebrates both the 25th anniversary of SGCNZ and the quadricentennial of Shakespeare’s death. It has indeed been a year of important milestones, and now we can also celebrate Dame Patsy Reddy’s investiture as the new Patron of SGCNZ.

A few weeks ago, I was asked by SGCNZ if me and my acting buddy, Caitlyn Friedel, would like to perform our regional winning five-minute Shakespearian piece at the welcoming ceremony at Government House. We were thrilled to do so the moment we were asked. Therefore, over the course of a week we worked on and refined our French and the rest of the scene, so it almost fit for royalty.

About just over a week ago, the formal ceremony was held and it was time to perform. Along with Maddie and Aidan Brooks performing an excerpt from a Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Allan and Rachel Henry doing a scene from Taming of the Shrew, Caitlyn and I performed our French scene from King Henry V. The performances complemented each other and the afternoon was a successful. It was even enjoyable to slip back into a character I played many months ago.

Along with this we got to meet the Governor General Dame Patsy Reedy, along with a few other notable people such as the British High Commissioner and actor Peter Hambleton. I’d like to thank Dawn Sanders and Government House for this wonderful opportunity, and wish the Governor General well in her new position.

Also I just want to remind you all folks that Chirstmas is coming up, and if you’re feeling in the Christmas spirit, then what better present to get than to buy me a kilometre, because remember folks, it only cost as little as $1 to get me 2km closer to the Globe, so spread the word. But if that doesn't take your fancy, then you'd better wait because I have a few exciting things in store for the coming year.

Remember if you want to keep updated then just head over to my Facebook page. But with that, I hope you have a wonderful day.

    Thanks

    Vincent

  • Update Map

      30 October 2016
    Main image

Introducing the update map. This map will be updated weekly on my Facebook page when the overall total amount raised (and therefore distanced travelled) progresses. You can follow my journey to globe as I reach certain milestone locations like Hong Kong or Moscow. Also, there is a counter on the left detailing a more precise figure of the amount raised and distance travelled. My next stop is in Jakarta of which we still need to raise another thousand to reach, so if you’re feeling a little bit generous and want to help me out, just donate here and see how far you can get me. Keep checking my Facebook page (and give it a like while you're there) to see how far I've gotten, and how far I still have left to go.

    Thanks

    Vincent

  • Milestone #1: Cairns

      29 October 2016

    Hello all

Before I begin I just want to say a big thank you to the congratulations, love and support that everyone has given me, upon hearing my fantastic news that I have been given the opportunity to perform on the Globe stage next July.

Although raising the $8500 needed to go is no small undertaking, I am delighted to tell you all that so far I have managed to raise $2164. I would like to thank the generosity of a local trust for awarding me the large grant of $2000, of which I am very thankful for. I would also like to thank Sharon Warburton, Jennifer Dutton, Glennis Hibbert, a Julia and a mystery donor for donating on either my givealittle page or in person. For each dollar that is raised its gets me 2km closer to the Globe which is roughly 19000km away. Therefore, based on the total amount raised, I have made it to Cairns, Australia. This is a huge milestone to have made in such a short amount of time and I thankful to everyone who has donated thus far.

But the fundraising doesn’t stop there. Already there are plans in motion for several upcoming events and activities that will take place over the next 6 months. In February, there will a music evening hosted by Jolt café which will hopefully feature Youth performers. Also in February, there will be artwork of Whanganui featured in Mint café. In March, there will be a night of Shakespearean entertainment. In April, there will be the Regional University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival (although it is not a fundraising activity, this is the event where my journey first started), along with an art exhibition (venue to be confirmed). Spread out along these months there will several sausage sizzle and raffles.

Therefore, to keep up with the information and the event details just go over to my Facebook page and keep checking back for when I hit my next milestone.

    Thanks

    Vincent
