I have been given the opportunity to travel to Globe as a part of the Young Shakespeare Company 2017. I need your help to make this happen.
Manawatu / Whanganui
I have been selected to represent New Zealand, along with 23 other students, to be a part of the Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company 2017 (SGCNZ YSC 2017). This trip entails travelling to the Globe in London, England in July 2017 to work alongside 23 other students, to work with professional tutors and directors to perform a 50-minute excerpt of one Shakespeare’s plays on the Globe stage. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and one that I am very grateful to be offered.
I initially found out about this company when I performed at my Regional University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival. Here I performed with my friend, a five-minute self-directed scene from Henry V. This was a thrilling experience, and for our scene to be selected for the National Festival was outstanding for both of us. After our performance at the National Festival, I was chosen to be one of 48 to attend the National Shakespeare Schools Production. This was a week long program where in my group of 14 others and I, we had to perform a 40-minute excerpt from Julius Caesar. I am now one of 24 out of roughly 5000 performers who have been selected to go to London. Never did I think I would ever make it this far, but I am thankful that I have, due to the stunning experiences that I have had, and I’m sure are still to come.
However, this experience comes at a costly price of $8500. This includes flights, accommodation, food and course fees, of which I’m trying to fundraise a majority of. Along with my Givealittle page, I am doing numerous fundraising activities and applying for several scholarships, and therefore this is just one area of my fundraising efforts.
From this program I will gain invaluable skills that I will be able to take with me into future years. A part from gaining obvious acting skills, it will heavily help me develop important life skills such as self-management, leadership, independence and the ability to communicate and work with other people. The repercussions and lessons learnt from this will continue with me well into the future, and from this I can help others around me, and the community I live in.
Therefore, any donation or help will be greatly appreciated. From where I live it is roughly 18,000km to London. Therefore, by donating even $1, it will get me 2km closer than I was before, so ever little bit helps.
I will be updating both this page and the Facebook page I’ve created if you want to follow and keep up with all my endeavours to raise this large sum of money. I will be doing numerous fundraising efforts over the following months and I will be posting any relevant information and the milestones I reach.
Thank you for reading this, and for your love and support.
Vincent
One more Milestone Left 19 March 2017
==========MILESTONE REACHED=========
Hi all
First all sorry for the long time between updates. If you want to stay better updated, then head over to my Facebook page dedicated to this trip (www.facebook.com/getvinnietotheglobe). This is where you should go if you want to stay updated with everything.
However, for those who are stick mainly to this site, be prepared for an update. We have all but one milestone left to reach; the last one. That’s right we have reached Moscow. This has been from a variety of ways, from people donating here, to fundraising activities, to a few scholarship and grants. Whatever way it has been, I just want to thank everybody who has gotten to where I am at the moment, and for supporting me along the way.
However, I am excited to announce that we only have $1000 left to go and I think it’s only right that we celebrate the last efforts that it’ll take to get me to all the way. Therefore, I’ve added a few more checkpoints across Europe ($200 apart) that mark the last steps of the fundraising journey. I’ll be doing regular shout outs and thanks to all those who donate, and special mentions to those who get me to each checkpoint.
With that, I need to give a special shout out to Stephen Fitzjohn as we have reached our first European checkpoint of Minsk. I want to thank you for your generous donation, of which it has enabled me continue on, and I thank you for your kindness.
I also want to thank Fiona, Nita, Glyn and an anonymous person for their donations. Although some might think that their donations are small compared to others, I’ll remind you that every dollar counts. For each dollar that someone donates, it gets me 2km closer to standing on the Globe stage. That’s 2km closer than I was before. So even if you donate $1, it still makes a world of difference in the long run.
If you want to stay updated than please head over to my Facebook page. This is where I regularly update, and where you will be getting the newest information.
See you in the next update.
Thanks
Vincent
