  • Extending the closing date for this page...

      11 October 2016

Because Michaela will be on sick leave for the start of next year, we have asked Givealittle to extend the end date to 30 June 2017 to help keep supporting her while she is on leave.

Michaela is a beautiful writer as many of you will know. She has been recording her journey in a wordpress blog. Check it out at:

Last week Michaela received her stem cell transplant and is in hospital for six weeks recovering. During that time staff and students from Belmont Primary are entering the Auckland Marathon in a team called Miki's Movers.

Michaela is so grateful for everyone's support through this page xxx

  • A Message from Michaela

      9 August 2016

I have been overwhelmed by the generosity from everybody around me in so many ways. Many are intangible, prayers, thoughts, and gestures. Many are practical, food, cleaning, help, letters, cards, messages. This page and your amazing donations have been both... Seeing the messages, sometimes just a name....a family, remembering you all, families, friends, children, some I don't even know and some who I know are facing their own struggles and yet they think of me, I have just been moved to tears every time I look on here and I haven't known if I am eloquent enough to thank you properly. I don't think you will ever know the love, the warmth this has brought to my heart, the relief it has given me and my family to have the help from you all.

I really believe that love and support are a big part of healing and I feel I have been given this in droves. I am so lucky. I see some people going through this alone and I know it would be so hard. I know I am supported and cared about, it has been a privilege to read messages, see people , learn to accept things being given , done, gifts of song, peace of mind, love, generosity....and be so acknowledged by everyone. I am truly blessed.

Health update is that I am heading towards a stem cell transplant which is my best chance of a cure. We have a donor from Australia and it will require a long hospital stay, even lower immunity levels and very long recovery. I have been good so far with side effects and no infections so I am hoping my luck holds out and I can be cured. If I am, it is thanks to people like yourselves and the love, prayers and gestures like this around me keeping me strong. I cannot thank you sufficiently , I can only promise to do my best to get better, to pass your generosity on as I can in my life .

Thank you, thank you, thank you x

Beautiful words, Darling Michaela. You're in our thoughts every single day. People are always asking about you. It's lovely that you have written this, as only you can; eloquently. We miss you so much as school. xxxxx
