Help a new stay at home mum create a salon where other mums could have their nails done in a space designed to welcome them and their baby.

Auckland

My name is Geraldyn, I am French I have lived in New Zealand for 7 years. I have studied art and graphic design in Paris before moving here. I got married in New Zealand, and had my first child here ( no sweet talk : I actually believe that this country is just the best to raise kids ).

As a new mom, I was overwhelmed by my new role and all the things that I had to do and learn in a single day. So much that I ended up finding myself still in my pyjamas at 5pm, looking like a mess.

So to feel a little bit like a woman again ( and not like a hairy ogre ), I started doing my nails at night when my baby was asleep. It was like a little treat. I felt better and even if it sounds superficial, that tiny detail made me feel like a milion bucks. Then I started doing my friends nails. Then got asked in the street about my nails. And it escalated where I started to live and breathe on what I consider as Painting on tiny canvases. On nail art.

But when talking with other mums around me who have young babies, they will just tell me that they couldn't go to any nail salon while caring for their bundle of joy : the smells are overpowering, you just can't stop to breastfeed, there are no toys and it's too noisy for a little one to sleep.

And then, it hit me like a train : this is something I can do, to make other mums feel beautiful and confident. To have with them that fun and creative time, dedicated to them, without worrying about who is going to babysit their baby for just an hour. I can create that salon, taking care of only one customer at a time, with a space dedicated to their little baby.

And in the mean time, I can also take care of my own baby, working from home to never miss a single moment of my little boy's 1st year, where all those first times come and are irreplaceable.

This fund will help me get the proper training that I need and also the necessary equipment to transform that extra room I have at home in a cozy Salon. Having a small baby doesn't allow me to work and save for that project. Your contribution will help me make an income while making a positive impact on my customers.

More than a stay at home mum project, this idea of mine is also a statement : every mum is also a woman, and having that little time to yourself without guilt and complications is way too rare.

This is a life time project. Giving back their confidence to women with something as simple as their favorite color on their nails. Giving them a space where no one will be offended if their baby cries or needs a feed. Where they could feel a little bit at home and could just vent on how their baby pukes without getting nasty looks.

And I am passionate about that.
