GIRLS TO WORLDS FUNDRAISER

Mia, Chloe and Valentina have jumped at an exciting challenge and unique opportunity to sail in the O'pen Skiff World Championships at Lake Garda, Italy on 28 July - 2nd August 2024. They will be joining a team of 18 youth sailors in total to fly the NZL flag in Italy, 8 of which are females - an incredible amount of females for what is usually a male dominated sport. Mia, Chloe and Valentina will be competing in the 12-15 year age category against a fleet of 167 sailors from all around the world.

To reduce costs for each family, I will be chaperoning the three girls, with the help of my Mum (Debbie). In order to get these three girls to the Worlds it has required a leap of faith from their parents, some major fundraising efforts and a lot of goodwill from supporters. These three girls have worked very hard in their sailing over many years at Manly Sailing Club and deserve this opportunity to be able to take their sport to the next level.

As you can imagine, costs for an event like this are huge. Mia, Chloe and Valentina have been fundraising by selling baked goods, snacks and breakfast baps. They have paid jobs that they are saving money from and we will be holding a Quiz Night Fundraiser in June to help with their efforts. The rest of the time, the girls will have a busy training schedule leading up to the event.
