Many tamariki don't know they can't see clearly - a child assumes the way they see the world is the way everyone does.

Painga Project works alongside high equity index primary schools, screening tens of thousands of tamariki each year to identify vision problems that might otherwise go unnoticed. For us, identifying a problem is only the beginning.

Through Celia, our mobile vision clinic, tamariki identified through screening get a full eye exam with an optometrist - at school. Those who need glasses choose their own frames, and we return to fit and deliver them, without leaving the classroom.

For many whānau, that matters. Cost, transport, time off work and long waiting lists can stand between a child needing glasses and getting them. Bringing the journey to school removes those barriers.
