$1,700 of $10,000 goal
Given by 11 generous donors in around 3 months

Give a goat to provide milk, income and empowerment. No administration costs - 100% of your gift is spent on the goats and their welfare.

Unspecified

'Safalta Womens Empowerment Project' seeks to empower women in need through micro-funding of goats for breeding and produce. Why women? Because women care for their children, their wider family and their village. When this happen communities are strengthened and everyone benefits.

Each woman receives the loan of one adult goat on the understanding that she will repay the loan after 3 years by returning one of the offspring to the donor group and one of the offspring to another woman in need. Women are selected and supported by the village committee.

One goat costs $100 NZD and can provide milk products for a whole family. Milk, cheese and yogurt can be used for a whole family.Other products include soap. Surplus milk and products can be sold for additional income.

100% of the donation goes to the Safalta Women's Empowerment Project in Nepal and your donation goes on working again and again as a micro-loan. This is not a gift to the women who receive the goats. The women are responsible for feeding and looking after them. The goats are insured by the project and veterinary costs are covered. As the loan is repaid the goats are used again for another woman in need.

Alan Palmer's involvement (page creator)

As a regular traveller to Nepal I have first hand experience of the impact of poverty on communities but especially on women and children. This empowerment project provide an opportunity for women to take charge of their own future in a cooperative community environment.

Use of funds

The donated funds will be spent on the goats, their insurance and veterinary expenses. Any surplus will be used for village school projects.
