Micro-preemie baby Kendrick is strong and fighting to get out of hospital and his mum has just had 2 operations with Ovarian cancer.
Wellington
Living in NZ for about 5 years now. My wife and I have struggled with infertility for many years and we were relieved to be able to start our IVF journey in 2021.
We had 2 failed attempts and then our 3rd rainbow baby stuck! We were soo happy!
Throughout the pregnancy my wife struggled with bloods clots and our little baby had been diagnosed with an omphalocele, which meant he would need special attention at birth.
Just days after cyclone Gabrielle hit, her waters broke at 23 weeks pregnant. We had to leave our home in Hawkes bay and go to Wellington for special care.
Baby Kendrick was born 3 weeks later at 26 weeks pregnant (March 10th) weighing 820g with many complications including an omphalocele (intestines on the outside of abdomen), immature lungs, immature eye growth and signs of Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome **waiting on genetic results.
So far he has had 3 surgeries to repair his omphalocele and eye injections due to premature birth with a possibility of laser eye surgery in a few weeks.
He is now 12 weeks old and is still fighting!
Mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer recently when baby was 11 weeks old and has had to undergo 2 surgeries while here with baby, with included a total removal of her ovaries and uterus to remove cancer cells and is now waiting for further medical treatment.
We haven’t been home in 16 weeks and with all that’s been happening I’ve been unable to work like I need to to support my family, and the financial burden has become too heavy for us.
Kayden is an employee, I am the Branch Manager for Truck Stops Wellington where Kayden is employed as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic while living at Ronald McDonald House, Wellington. Their home is in Napier.
A young dad struggling to work to support his family, bills are mounting up and overdue, vehicle, fuel, and all those costly requirements we need to live.
