Give a little for Erica Emery (nee Walsh)

  • Gone too soon

      7 March 2023

It is with a heavy heart to share that Erica’s battle with cancer is over and she passed away on Sunday 5th March 2023 in the loving comfort of her husband Keegan, her children, parents, whanau and friends.

She is at peace now and will forever live on in the hearts of those who love her.

She showed amazing courage throughout the past year fighting her illness and embracing life.

I know there are no words that can ease the pain for her loved ones left behind to deal with their grief, and our love and support are with her whanau at this sad time.

On behalf of the whanau they would like to thank everyone who has contributed to her give a little page which has an annual timeframe and is due to close on 9th March 2023.

  • Update for Erica's supporters

      24 January 2023

First of all we would like to thank everyone for all the support in 2022!

Your koha has been a huge support helping:

❤ Our whanau to spend quality time together away for weekends

💛 A honeymoon in Queenstown for Erica and Keegan

💚 It enabled Erica, Keegan and the kids move into a new home

As well as help with day to day expenses in life like groceries, petrol, winter-warmies for the kids and Erica during her months of chemo.

Winter was a tough one last year!! We are forever grateful for the memories made in 2022 💜

After her diagnosis in March 2022 she continued her chemo treatments every 2 weeks following CT scans 3monthly 2 check her progress. The cancer had disappeared down to only her stomach and uterus and had shrunken right down to a quarter of its original size. Erica’s health had picked up and the doctor was happy with everything she was doing.

Wednesday 4th Jan 2023 Erica suffered a massive seizure landing her in hospital for more tests. Doctors then discovered the cancer has now spread to her brain. Being told by her doctor that she only has a few short months left with us. With surgery not being an option and radiation giving no guarantee of removal, Erica has made the decision to end her treatments with the hospital. We as her whanau support her decision to live her life in the best quality she can and not spend the remainder of her time in and out of hospital.

What is important to Erica over the next few months is that she is able to spend quality time with her husband, children and close family and friends. 🧡

We understand you have all given so much already, this message is to update those who have supported and followed Erica’s journey. 💙

    Kind regards

    Codie

    💜💙💚💛🧡❤

  • Diagnosis and treatment

      28 March 2022

Erica has been diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer which has spread from her stomach to her lymph nodes and her bones.

She is currently undergoing chemotherapy every 2 weeks and is allowed to have her chemo administered at home. So far, she has had 2 rounds - which have gone really well.

Doctors have said it is unlikely her sight will come back, but her short term memory has improved.

She is currently at home spending time with her husband, kids and close family and friends.

I know that finding the right words to convey to everyone in this latest update has been hard for Erica and Codie. So, I am really grateful to them both for having the courage to share Erica’s story so far.

    Kia kaha whanau
