Support Grant and his family as he goes through this tragic journey with pancreatic cancer.
Auckland
On the 11th of June, Grant (53), received a phone call from his doctor late at night advising him to get to hospital. A routine blood check had revealed Grant's body was struggling. So on the 12th of June, Grant checked himself into Middlemore hospital. It has been a very frustrating journey to say the least. They found a mass on his pancreas and he ended up with pancreatitis. A stent was put into the bile duct (potentially failed), and multiple failed biopsy attempts. He has been in and out of hospital, released for day trips home and weekends. A painful 7 weeks later they managed to take a successful biopsy last week and confirmed it is pancreatic cancer.
Unfortunately during this time his health has deteriorated and keeping food down has become a struggle. Grant is back in hospital and will get an MRI to see if the lumps they have found on his liver are metastasis or not and will also put an external drain into his liver to help it drain. They will also try to insert a new stent.
Next week we hope to hear if surgery to remove the main tumor is an option.
This is all very unsettling times for everyone close to Grant. Min (wife), Hayley (daughter) and Ryland (grandson) are spending as much time as possible with him.
Grant is no longer able to work, and Min is currently on reduced hours. Hayley needs to stop work and potentially put her studies on hold.
I would love to raise money to help cover costs and relieve some of the stress associated with this devastating journey.
I am Grant's first wife, and now best friend. I have known him for 20 years and our bond is one filled with laughter, frustration and a deep sense of understanding.
Through this page it is my hope to support Min and Hayley with much needed time off work. Support Hayley with the many trips up from her home in Hamilton. And hopefully get Grant and Min back to 90 mile beach and maybe a few short adventures if possible.
The next step of Grant's journey 17 September 2025
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been supporting us through the last very stressful 3 months. Grant is now at home following multiple medical complications which have meant numerous hospital admissions and eventually a gastric bypass surgery to allow him to eat again.
Today, Grant starts a very aggressive chemo protocol with the aim to shrink the tumour to a size that could hopefully be resectable. This will be a tough journey, but the continued support brings so much comfort.
We appreciate those who have so generously contributed to Grants Givealittle. We purchased a Lazyboy for Grants comfort as he recovers from surgery and heads into chemo with all the likely side effects. The financial assistance after his sudden loss of income has been immensely helpful, as Grant is unable to work now and for the foreseeable future. The money goes toward petrol and hospital parking, food on the go, special dietary requirements (for Grant), endless coffees (for Min). Petrol, parking, and missed work (for Hayley).
We really appreciate everyone's love and care for us along with the practical help we have recieved.
We could not be doing this without our awesome village.
