Help Brock get the treatments he needs to deal with the negative effects of Tourettes and Autism and improve his quality of life.

Bay of Plenty

Brock is 12yrs old and has ASD (Autism), ADHD, OCD, ODD, and Dysbraxia. In Novembet last year he was also diagnosed with Tourettes. He presented with motor tics and a vocal tic of an horrendous barking cough.

Brock was on Ritalin for his ADHD and Fluoxitine for his severe anxiety. Brock needed to come off the Ritalin as it is a drug known to make Tourettes worse and change to an anti tic medication.

This was a very trying time and resulted in Brock being off school for a term as he had to slowly come of the ritalin and then be on nothing for a week before slowly starting on Clonidine.

Ritalin is known to be an appetite suppressant and since coming off it Brock has put on over 12Kg in weight, despite a balanced diet. Brock is petrified of dogs as part of his ASD so going for walks etc is out of the question. He is unable to play team sports and his barking cough is aspirated highly around people he doesnt know.

On Tuesday the 22nd May things changed when his vocal tic drastically changed from the cough to a totally out of control swearing tic. He has absolutely no control of what is coming out of his mouth and has been quite upset with some of the things he has been saying.

At this stage Brock can't go to school as they are too full on, disruptive and explicit. There is no guarantee that this will change or settle down. We have just had to increase his meds and this makes him really tired and lathergic. There is no cure at this stage for Tourettes.

There are 2 things I am hoping to raise money towards. The 1st is to help purchase an electric treadmill. Brock enjoys using the one at his nana's and if he had one at home he can use it for fitness and stress relief and weight management. We are unable to receive any sort of help or funding with this. The 2nd is help pay towards an alternative medical treatment. It is along the lines of brain training and has had great results with other neuro conditions. It is not a cheap course but an option we are excited to try. Obviously as his mum my sole focus in life is to ensure Brock can live as normal a life as possible and 100% believe that is the key to ensuring that. Thanks for your support for Brock and I. It is really appreciated and I hope you know that you will be part of making that difference.
