Bruce, 64, has lived with disability his whole life—let’s help him gain the freedom he deserves with a mobility scooter ❤️
Cambridge, Waikato
We’re trying to raise funds for a guy who has experienced some hefty knocks in life- it started at the ‘get-go’ actually with a diagnosis of spina bifida at birth. That’s meant Bruce has battled disability all his life…we won’t go into the scope of his difficulties or explain all the challenges which that condition entails, but Bruce is a battler.. His life consists of minimal physical mobility, relying on an aging scooter to getting around the town of Cambridge, New Zealand where he has lived for nearly 40 years of his 60 plus years. He seeks to maintain a level of independence as best he can, living on his own while appreciating some level of necessary home-care visits each week.
Our purpose in raising funds for Bruce is to purchase a replacement mobility scooter as this is his lifeline for getting out and about to shop for groceries, do a weekly paper-round to assist making ends meet within his subsistence lifestyle, keeping appointments and generally sustaining some level of life beyond the four walls of his little rented house.
Within those walls, Bruce has marginal mobility with the use of a customised walking frame, but as his doctor says on a scale of 1-10 (10 being extreme), Bruce’s need of the scooter is ‘essential’ since without it, he cannot get out of the house.
We’re asking people to please consider chipping in to supplement funds we hope to raise from local community funding organisations!
Bridges Church is the name of our church, but the legal entity which owns the assets used by Bridges is a charitable trust called the Synergy (Cambridge) Trust. Our vision is to build bridges between the world and the Kingdom of God!
Our goal is to provide an Invercare Comet Pro mobility scooter for a disabled 64yo in our community, named Bruce. He is living independently, while being unable to walk. He relies heavily on an aging scooter which is in desperate need of replacing!
