Gracie has been hit by a car and needs surgery to stabilize her pelvis so that she can live a full, pain free life.
Auckland
Gracie is a sweet, blind, little tortie girl. in 2016 at just 2 weeks old, we found her in our back yard with her eyes crusted shut from cat flu. We took her to the vet to to get her eyes cleared and then gave her back to her mother the next day. Her mum was a local stray who lived under our next door neighbors house. We started feeding them, and once we were able we trapped them both, and my mum agreed to look after them. Gracie's mother became tame, but Gracie escaped and became a barn cat for a couple of years, despite being blind.
In 2018 my mum had to move house, so we trapped her once again, and brought her inside, where she discovered that getting petted is THE BEST THING EVER, and quickly became the sweet little lap kitty that she is today.
On Thursday the 15th of August, Gracie was hit by a car. She managed to get outside at night (she usually stays in at night), and there were fireworks going off, which must have scared her a lot because she never goes near the road or vehicles because they make big scary noises, and being blind, big scary noises are a big no-no for Gracie. An hour later Gracie came back limping and staggering, clearly in a lot of pain.
Her xrays show that her pelvic has multiple fractures. Luckily her tail will not have to be amputated, though it also has a break. Without the surgery, the vet says her hip may never come right. Surgery is booked, but is going to cost at least $2500. That is on top of the $1000 we have spent on her since the 15th in xrays, vet consultations, pain relief, special food to get her to eat again, and everything else that the vet has had to do to make sure she is okay.
Please help use give Gracie the surgery she needs to live a long and comfortable life.
The money will go to Gracie's surgery and related vet bills. If there is any surplus money this will be donated to NZ Animal Law Association, a group of legal professionals who are dedicated to improving animal welfare through legal reform.
Stitches out tomorrow! 3 September 2019
Oops, I just realized that there are updates here, and I have been posting things only on the facebook page that I have been running (the link is at the bottom of the page, and I highly recommend having a look and following it).
Anywho, Gracie is due to have her stitches removed tomorrow, of which she is very happy. She still has to be coned unless supervised, cause she is NOT a fan of the stitches, and wants to pull them out.
She is also NOT a fan of being stuck in a cage all day, so we will have to see about her having some out of cage time when we see the vet.
Fingers crossed.
