Give Marianne a chance

  • Final update

      18 September 2024

    Hi all,

Its been a rough three months since Marianne passed however we are also thank-full for the quality extension to her life the give-a-little funds enabled. Marianne's husband and children are coping the best they can. When I do get up to the Coromandel it has been for quick weekend trips, to visit Marianne's grave at Ferry Landing and for supporting Marianne's family. I am happy to catch up with any of you if you sing out as each donation no matter how small made a massive impact: dual.functions@xtra.co.nz

  • Update 23 May 2024

      23 May 2024

As a quick update Marianne continues to be on medications to assist with pain and comfort and is being monitored and cared for by the hospice team while she is at home. Her children and David have leave from their study or jobs to be with Marianne everyday. She will be feeling so loved right now, her family investing daily quality time with her. Keep her in your thoughts and make sure you invest time with your loved ones x

  • Thank-you

      25 April 2024

Hi all, we want to thank each and every one of you for your caring words and generous donations that have driven Marianne's life extension to the end of April so far. Remember, she had until the end of January at most without the funding of the private treatment. Your help has enabled her quality time with her children and grandchildren. She wanted to see her youngest son get into the swing of university. She wanted to witness her daughter go to Japan for her school trip, to know the shy country girl could master the challenge and have an amazing learning, social and cultural opportunity. Marianne wanted to spend time more time with her eldest child and grandchildren who usually live out of region. She got all of this. There is no $ value to the time extension and achievements Marianne has witnessed, in line with her goals. Thank-you +.

The time has come for us to report that no further donations are required for the private treatments. The costliest of treatments recently stopped, as David has already updated. We have extended the timeframe of this page for one reason. We have upmost respect for you and therefore want to keep you updated. Thank you for enabling Marianne and her family crucial time. While she is receiving hospice comfort cares at home David is now off work to care for her.

We will keep you posted. Nga mihi

  • 16/04/2024 Update

    Hi Everyone,

It has been a while since the last update. Marianne recently had a review with the specialist who has advised that the treatments are no longer effective and has discontinued treatment of her cancer. She will however continue with immunotherpay (Avastin) a this helps reduce some of the negative side effects of Marianne's cancer.

Marianne is now focusing on keeping as healthy and mobile as possible and prioritising self care and time with family. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way big or small to Marianne's treatment/care. It has really made a difference to Marianne and to us as a family. Without your input, we would likely have lost Marianne at the end last year and the value of the extra time we have been given is beyond measure. The "Give a little" closes soon, but hopefully I will be able to keep updating. Love and kind regards. Dave and Family.

  • 31/01/2024 Update

    Posted by: David Warwood

    Hi All, Dave here.

Thought I had better give everyone an update, given we are at the end of January (yikes).

Unfortunately, one of Marianne's treatments has not worked and so she is about to start a new Privately Funded Chemo tomorrow which we are hoping will be effective.

Otherwise, the other Immunotherapy seems to have helped to keep many of Marianne's symptoms at bay, which is worth its weight in gold (In fact, it is probably literality worth its weight in gold...Ha).

Thanks for everyone's ongoing support, it is and always will be appreciated.

    Kindest regards

    Dave Warwood

Hi everyone, Thought I better provide an update of the last couple weeks.

Marianne has now had 3 sessions of Immunotherapy Treatment. The next two sessions will be thanks to everyone's contributions which we are forever grateful for.

Marianne spent a fantastic weekend 2 weeks ago with old friends who travelled long distances to see her. Marianne said that after 30 years they all still "clicked together like a puzzle" We then celebrated Ben's 18th Birthday this Sunday. Whilst this was a quiet affair, Marianne was very happy to see Ben reach this milestone and then spend time with his wonderful friends.

We are hopeful that when Marianne finishes the Chemo aspect of the treatment (In a couple weeks?) she will start to not feel quite so ill and tired. Talk Soon. Love Dave

Hi everyone. Thanks so much to all who have contributed to the give-a-little so far. Your generosity is incredible. Marianne has now had two sessions of private treatment. Despite a few ups and downs, overall Marianne feels like she has made some progress and is feeling an increase in her energy. Marianne is grateful to have had a lovely weekend with her Son Drew and Grandson Theo (who is a ball of energy) as well as time with the rest of her family. Kindest regards to you all. Love Dave
