CAKE AND CUTS! 10 - 1pm, Sunday 26th February Southern Cross, Wellington
Wellington
Introductions
Hello, let me introduce you to some very special people in my life. Stace, Greg, and their beautiful girls, Dali (3) and Bay (1). Check them out in a photo in the Gallery section of this page. Greg is a good friend of mine and Dom's. We met him when Stace introduced us to her new boyfriend - I remember our other girlfriends giggling, feeling like we were in company with a celebrity :) Years on, and they are now engaged and have the gorgeous girls. Greg is widely known as the front man of band Delays and for his incredible art, which needs to be seen to be believed. They live in my hometown Southampton, England.
The Diagnosis
Greg has been treated for IBS for a while and his GP didn’t think it was a major issue. Gastro consultants and dieticians had confirmed the IBS diagnosis. At the end of October, Greg began experiencing severe abdominal pains and vomiting and was admitted to A&E. An x-ray revealed a cancerous blockage in his bowel. After further investigation, it was discovered that the bowel cancer has also spread to his lungs and because of the extent of the tumours, a 12 week course of chemotherapy was the only option; surgery to remove the primary tumour was not possible.
Devastatingly, has been told that readily-available, conventional treatments will not save him.
This heart-breaking news came to light on Bay’s 1st birthday.
Even more awfully, Greg is genetically incompatible with the only free immunotherapy drug available on the NHS in the UK; hailed as the new breakthrough in cancer treatment.
More Bad News
Unbelievably, Stace and Greg have very recently found out that Greg is also incompatible with private courses of immunotherapy; and that Avastin will only extend his life by a few weeks.
Stace is working around the clock, while simultaneously looking after Greg and the girls, to research remaining treatment options, and they come at a price.
Hope for the Future
That's where this page comes in. The support that Greg has had since the diagnosis is a testament to him; his art and his music. Being so far away from them, I want to do what we can from here to show solidarity with, and love for my friends, Stace and Greg, across the miles.
How, When and What?
My two sons and I will be donating our hair to FreedomWigs - an organisation that makes wigs in New Zealand. For more information about them - here is their web address http://www.freedomwigs.co.nz. I have waist length hair and have never had it above shoulder level. It will be our 21 month old's first hair cut EVER, as well as Isaac's first short hair style!
See the gallery for pictures of us currently!
Dom will be shaving his hair as well as his signature side burns, too!
If you are in the area, pop along to the Southern Cross on the day to witness the hair-cutting and enjoy a slice a cake from our delicious cake sale. All proceeds will go directly to Stace and Greg.
If you are in the UK and would like to sponsor us, you can either donate on this page, or you can put your sponsorship directly into the ISA and let us know about it! The details for the ISA can be found on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Cake-and-Cuts-723478517814054/?fref=ts
Greg is my friend, and the fiance of one of my oldest and bestest friends. He is the father to two beautiful little girls. They need him in their lives. Greg is an incredible artist and musician and his work is loved by so many. I am gutted not to be there to walk along side them in person, so am doing what I can across the miles, to help, and am looking for YOUR help to make that possible. If you can't donate, please share as widely as you can. Thank you.
All money raised by this page will go directly to Greg and Stace's ISA in the UK to help fund targeted treatments that are not currently not offered on the NHS.
