A Givealittle page set-up to help support Rhykin's recovery and his whānau, through this difficult time.
Hawke's Bay
Rhykin is a young 13 year old boy who is rugby mad. He loves his sport and has always dreamed of playing alongside his big brothers and one day making the All Blacks.
On October the 22nd, Rhykin, with his whānau and friends were out and about on the farm enjoying the beautiful Hawke's Bay weather. Unfortunately when he and his older brother were driving back to farm base, the can-am hit the lip of a bank in a freak accident causing it to flip and unfortunately crushing Rhykins left leg.
He was air lifted to Hawkes Bay Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He spent 9 days in Hawkes Bay and had four surgeries, but unfortunately his big toe was amputated. Rhykin was flown to Wellington - Hutt hospital where he’s undergone 5 further surgeries with one being a massive 10 hour limb saving procedure.
After a weekend's bed rest and a re-attempt of leg hanging, it was clear that the transplant has not worked. Rhykin will go back to theatre a 10th time to have transplant removed and wound vacuumed dressed. He now awaits to hear the next plan going forward.
Please show your support for this amazing young man and whānau to help cover living costs, as both parents are with Rhykin in Wellington as his main support system. He will need certain things to support his recovery both mentally and physically. There will be many trips to and from hospital for follow ups and potentially further surgery pending on the next procedures done.
