Gizmo, a resident cat of Catnap Cafe, has recently been diagnosed with congenital kidney disease and treatment isn't covered by insurance.
Canterbury
Gizmo is one of our resident cats and has been with us since we opened. In fact, her and her brother Bobby were the first cats to come to Catnap! She is around 2 years old.
Recently, we noticed Gizmo had started sitting in an awkward position and had lost a bit of weight so we took her in to the vet to investigate. Unfortunately, it turns out that as well as hip dysplasia and deformed hind legs (which we knew about) she also has some congenital kidney abnormalities which are now starting to cause problems.
Gizmo has had several visits to the vet for tests, fluids and an ultrasound. The good news is, things are now within the normal range and she is feeling much better. She is on a special diet now to slow down further deterioration and her bloods will be retested in 3 months time. Although we do have pet insurance for our resident cats, unfortunately congenital conditions are a general policy exclusion, so they have not covered any costs relating to Gizmo's kidney disease.
For now, Gizmo is receiving lots of love and cuddles from us and customers at the cafe and she is back to her cheeky self but her vet bills have hit us pretty hard, alongside vet bills for two of our other adoptable cats Lily and Sparrow who have been treated for bladder stones and allergies respectively.
Any contributions to Gizmo's vet bills would be very much appreciated and help us in our overall mission to find homes for rescue cats and provide a loving home for our residents cats.
Funds will go directly towards paying Gizmo's vet bills. The total amount is $1,846.75. Any additional funds raised will go towards the ongoing cost of her prescription diet kidney food.
Thank you! 31 October 2019
