Glengarry Soldier WWI Settlement Commemorative Site

$450 of $8,000 goal
Given by 3 generous donors in around 3 months

To fundraise $8000 to complete Stage One of the project - to establish a simple commemorative plaque in the district.

Manawatu / Whanganui

On 22 November 2020 the Phil Lamason Heritage Trust (Inc) worked with local people to commemorate the occasion of 100 years since the balloting to the WWI Soldier Settler farms near Dannevirke. The consensus of the gathering that day was to establish a simple commemorative site with a bronze plaque to commemorate this important chapter of local history.

The plan with this project is to develop it in 2 phases.

Firstly to put the plaque in place.

Secondly to link the site into a wider QR code based visitor heritage trail around the wider Tararua District.

About us

The charity aims to promote the Phil Lamason WWII story and work collaboratively with local groups to help preserve and present other important local Dannevirke heritage stories.

Use of funds

Create a small sealed and fenced space on which will be mounted a simple bronze plaque with an accompanying bench seat. This site in time link through a QR Code into a wider heritage trail in Tararua District.
