I have been selected to represent New Zealand on the Global Development Tour, a UN Youth NZ educational trip that will take place in January 2018. The 29-day-long tour will take 22 students from across New Zealand through Europe and to New York to represent New Zealand at the Columbia Model United Nations Conference at Columbia University, a prestigious annual event. At this week long international youth conference, we will be debating a range of issues in uniquely challenging crisis committees.
I feel extremely honoured to have been presented with this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I have been involved with UN Youth for around four years and I feel beyond privileged and grateful to be able to take what I have learnt to the global stage. Not only am I excited to grow, learn and represent New Zealand but also to travel to some incredible cities - New York, London, Berlin, Paris, Geneva, Copenhagen and Rome. The tour focuses on the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which cover a wide range of areas including clean energy, climate action, ending poverty, gender equality and education. Each city we visit is a leader in achieving the goals and the delegation will be meeting with relevant NGOs, businesses, policy makers and dignitaries along the way. I hope that the knowledge I gain from this tour will help me to give back to my community in New Zealand and become a positive change-maker in my future career path.
Every little bit makes a difference and I greatly appreciate your support!
The $8,200 cost of the tour includes travel, accommodation, food and activities, and I am currently seeking generous sponsors to help me take part in this experience.
