Future Leaders, Once in a Lifetime Opportunity. First-time students from a total immersion Māori kura been presented this opportunity.
Auckland
Four tauira (students) from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori a Rohe ō Mangere (TKKM a Rohe ō Mangere) have been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend the annual Global Young Leadership Conference (GYLC) held in America.
The conference will take place in Washington DC from the 1st of July until the 10th of July 2019, with visits to different landmarks in Washington and New York.
Students from the 50 States of America and 145 countries around the world will to come together to debate and discuss issues that plague our country and other countries around the world, and see if the future generation will be able to find any resolutions. It is set out so when they embark on this experience, they will take part on hands-on activities, see world issues from a new point of view, and develop the critical success skills necessary for 21st-century global leaders.
Not only would this be the first time students from TKKM a Rohe ō Mangere be attending a conference of such magnitude; it is also the first time a total immersion Māori kura (school) has been presented with the opportunity to attend a life-changing event. This opportunity also gives the chance for our tauira to showcase Aotearoa New Zealand to the world, with a perspective of Te Ao Māori.
“Ko te Manu e kai ana i te Miro, nōna te Ngahere. Ko te Manu e kai ana i te Mātauranga, nōna te Ao.”
“The one who partakes of the flora and fauna, that will be their domain. The one who engages in Education, opportunities are boundless.”
So we are asking for any help we can get, to get these tauira to this amazing event, and all help will be extremely appreciated. If you can, please share this with your whānau (family) and friends, spread the word, as we are hoping that this reaches all the corners or Aotearoa and beyond.
