Adam has been diagnosed with brain cancer. He has had a tumour removed, and is now beginning his first course of therapy
Auckland
In late March 2015, Adam had his first ever seizure. This was caused by a tumour that the doctors believe he has had for about 10 years.
They believe the tumour had started to change its make up and needed to be removed. It was successfully taken out - but after 3 reviews it was graded a Grade 3 tumour. These tumours have an average survivability rate of 3 years post surgery.
Katie and Adam have been recommended to 'live life fast'. And we hope to do that with the love and support of our friends and family.
However, before we can do that, Adam has to go through 8 months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During which he will find it very hard to well potentially do anything. However, we are both hoping for the best!
It is directly affecting me (I'm Adam), and I am trying to ensure that while I can't work. That I ensure Katie and any children we have will be set up if things don't go as well as we hope
Onto the next stage 23 October 2015
Hey again everyone.
Well I'm now 4 weeks past my combined radio and chemo treatment. That went for half of August and all of September (6 weeks in total). I got through it fairly scott free, lost a little tuft of hair, and had a really rough time after the treatment. Lost about 9kgs - however, I have moved on from that and am feeling A LOT better now
I saw my oncologist on Wednesday, and she is really happy with how I got through everything. I start my 6 month chemo treatment today. I basically take 5 days of higher dosage and then have the rest of the month off. I'll be doing that through till mid-March.
The doc seems to think I'll be able to handle it really well, and not worry about side effects, and actually be a real person again... maybe :P.
On the whole, am happy with however is going.
Have a few MRIs coming up, so will have a put more info about my actual brain soon.
Thanks again everyone :)
Love,
Adam and Katie
