Goodbye Pork Pie is taking part in the 2019 Mongol Rally, raising funds and awareness for the Mental Health Foundation of NZ & Cool Earth

Nationwide

In July 2019, a dynamic collective of Kiwi’s will be embarking on the greatest motoring adventure in the world. Geared with little more than our wits and a sprinkle of Kiwi ingenuity, the chaps Cameron Brewster, Stewart Marshall, David Shaw, Gray Morrow, George Muschamp and Matt Simpson are combining personalities to form Goodbye Pork Pie – a team who will take on the global race known as the Mongol Rally.

Inspired by the iconic 1981 Kiwi film ‘Goodbye Pork Pie’, in which two halfwits drive a Mini the length of New Zealand, we have decided to follow suit, but on a global scale.

The Mongol Rally will take us over a third of the way around the globe, across the mountains, desert and steppe of Europe and Asia, as we totter from London, England to Ulan-Ude, Russia and back again in a very roundabout way. There’s no support, no set route and no prizes for winning; just a group of enthusiastic Kiwi’s and our gutless 1000cc cars.

2 inadequate cars + 6 marginal lads + 30 unfamiliar countries + 120 exhausting days + 30,000 sluggish kilometres = 1 colossal adventure.

However, taking part in the Mongol Rally isn’t all about the adventure – we are proud to be raising awareness and providing support to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand and Cool Earth.

1 in 5 people experience mental illness every year. The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand is a charity that works towards creating a society free from discrimination, where all people enjoy positive mental health and wellbeing. They work to influence individuals, families, organisations and communities to improve and sustain their mental health and reach their full potential. Find out more at www.mentalhealth.org.nz.

Over the last 40 years, half the world’s rainforests have been destroyed. Cool Earth is a charity that works alongside rainforest communities to halt deforestation and its impact on climate change. They work to put local people back in control of their forest, as they are the forest’s best possible custodians, and create strong, self-determining communities. Find out more at www.coolearth.org.

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand and Cool Earth need your donations, big or small, it doesn’t matter – it will have an impact.
