The OKE Growing A Future initiative helps to establish life and social skills in local kiwi kids, by providing a sustainable gardens!
Auckland
The goal for OKE is to install our Growing A Future project into primary schools throughout Auckland. The initial target is to get all primary schools in Papatoetoe growing by 2018. This will enable 6,000 kids up to the age of 14 to get their hands dirty and grow their own veggies, whilst developing an amazing array of life skills.
The Growing A Future project costs $10,000 ($7,500 materials + $2,500 management) per school and provides all the equipment needed to get kids growing, from garden beds to a greenhouse. The cost of this project is fully funded by the OKE charity, with zero cost being passed on to the school, all we ask is that the schools find passionate people from the local community to help teach the kids the wonderful world of gardening.
The OKE charity are the brains behind the Growing A Future project and are working with schools in Papatoetoe, the local community, universities and anyone who is keen to help us to get kids growing.
Oke provide Kiwi kids the opportunity to learn life and social skills by introducing productive gardens into schools. By giving the kids the tools to learn, Oke are empowering schools and their communities, ultimately providing a better place for everyone.
