Hello generous donors - I've finally gotten around to detailing some of my life here in Guatemala on my blog. If you'd like to read it check out: www.theroadNesstravelled.wordpress.com

In other news - thanks to you - some girls had a very entertaining couple of hours!!!

It was recently Independence Day in Guatemala - a very big deal. Many activities leading up to the big day - but on the day it was a public holiday. We were going to take the kids into the nearby village but it was raining- ENTER the pom pom critters. A friend of mine sent me some googley eyes from NZ and I was trying to figure out how to use them. I came up with pom poms...with eyes stuck on 'em. THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY I was able to buy $20 worth of wool. I thought the girls would just make one and get bored, but they went pom pom crazy and were entertained for a good 2-3 hours! UNHEARD OF. THANK YOU 1 week later they still have them hanging off their bunk beds :)

    Hello generous donors!

Just to let you know what's been happening thanks to you giving... I've had one night cooking pasta (with ham and cheese)with three boys from my section - they were determined that 1 and a half packets of spaghetti wouldn't be enough for them. I assured them it would be, and it was. I think they had a lot of of fun hanging out together and cooking something different - usually we have beans and rice or beans and a tortilla every night for dinner (Lunch is the main meal with a bit more variety!)

We also went TO THE ZOO this week. Me and some other volunteers banded together - we took kids from my group (11-15 years old) our special needs kids (and these guys hardly ever go out!!!) and a few teenagers from two other sections. These are all children who have no family or anyone that can look after them during the school holidays so to be able to distract them and do something fun is a privilege.

We made sandwiches for their lunch (90!) added in some chips and biscuits and took water. We had to pay for the food, transport and entry for ourselves, the kids and some of the Guatemalan caregivers.

COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!! Thanks so much again.
