I want to give kids at the orphanage I'm volunteering at a bit of a change from the every day stuff - a bit of fun!

I've worked in the news media for years... until I got sick of reporting sad and negative news.
I decided to leave my job, beautiful NZ, my friends and family and to try and make a positive difference in the world and lives of some children.

I'm volunteering in a group home for orphaned and abandoned children in Guatemala.
These kids have had it tough. Many of them have been abused and some have lived in institutions all their life.
I would love to give these children some new experiences. They spend nearly all their time here at school or in their dorms. They rarely get to leave.
I'm hoping for some help so I can do some little things like cook pizza, walk to the local village for a hotdog or even take a group on an outing like the zoo.
It doesn't take much to give these kids a lot.

In other news - thanks to you - some girls had a very entertaining couple of hours!!!
It was recently Independence Day in Guatemala - a very big deal. Many activities leading up to the big day - but on the day it was a public holiday. We were going to take the kids into the nearby village but it was raining- ENTER the pom pom critters. A friend of mine sent me some googley eyes from NZ and I was trying to figure out how to use them. I came up with pom poms...with eyes stuck on 'em. THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY I was able to buy $20 worth of wool. I thought the girls would just make one and get bored, but they went pom pom crazy and were entertained for a good 2-3 hours! UNHEARD OF. THANK YOU 1 week later they still have them hanging off their bunk beds :)
