This Christmas, give the gift of a decent place to live.
East Tamaki, Auckland
Meet Evie who has just turned four.
In the first two years of her life, Evie had been hospitalized three times with back to back-respiratory illness attributed to living in a cold, damp and draughty rental property.
In winter, it got so bad the family would sleep in the lounge. Evie’s mother Georgia said, “She’d get so sick, no one was sleeping. When she would breathe her chest would cave in, which the specialist said could damage her organs.”
Habitat’s Healthy Homes programme completed a home assessment, providing them with education and items designed to keep the home, warmer, drier and healthier, including double lined curtains.
“Evie is so much better now, it’s easy to keep her warm and we are all sleeping again at night. It feels good and there is no lasting damage to her lungs”, said Georgia.
Your support means Habitat can help more girls like Evie to grow up in decent, affordable shelter.
