Haiti Mission Trip 2016

$1,055 of $3,000 goal
Given by 15 generous donors in around 5 months

An opportunity to help the poor people of Haiti receive Chiropractic Care. Team project will work through Xmas and New Year 2016.

Auckland

I am fundraising to go on a Chiropractic Mission Trip to Haiti this December.

The Haiti trip has run since 2002. Set up by American based Chiropractors who volunteer their time and passion into helping the community and students learn. So far providing Chiropractic care to over 1 million people in Haiti since 2002.

In the words of my late grandfather “Follow your dreams by doing what you love, at the end of the day nothing else matters”. If you would like to help me follow my dream then any donations would be greatly appreciated.

I have chosen this voluntary work primarily because Haiti, which was already a poor country, has once again been devastated by an earthquake. I personally feel it is important to give back to the global community.

A big thank you  13 January 2017

To all my friends and family that supported my venture to Haiti, I want to thank you!

As the dust finally settles on my memorable time in Haiti and Dominican Republic I want to reflect and thank everyone. The experience, to say the least, was a life changing experience. I am humbled that I was able to go over there and serve the people over the Christmas and new year period. Whilst missing out on the traditional Christmas with my family I learnt about the true meaning of Christmas, to give. It was especially memorable to be able to give to the people living in the poorest country in the Caribbean. We even got to spread the Christmas spirit by offering presents to some orphans.

While the country itself may be poor, I was overwhelmed with the beauty and happiness of the people. Although owning little what they have they partake of generously to people around them. They also had a remarkable understanding of the importance of health and exhibited a great trust in our Chiropractic skills. I witnessed some truly incredible results ranging from tears, backflips and just the general stampede of people wanting to get checked. Over there we are known as the "touch healers" which was flattering but is not a name I will bring back with me to New Zealand.

This experience was shared with a group of other chiropractors from all over the world from people of all backgrounds. While some of our education was different we were all there with the same purpose and united by the same idea which was amazing.

Besides just organizing health mission trip the organization is currently sponsoring an orphanage as well as supporting many other projects. We had the privilege of visiting many of these. We visited their main ongoing project which is the Village of Hope (see the foundation works below) which is planned to eventually be a self sustaining village that not only house and educate the children but also provide jobs. This is essential, considering the country that has 90% unemployment. Providing the children with a education, job and a continued hope for a better life.

What the trip really showed me is that it doesn't matter if the glass is half full or half empty, that is only a matter of perspective. We just need to be grateful for the glass that we have.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is ready to make the most of 2017.

Much love,

Ryan

Dearest Ryan, It was only 8 years ago at the age of 12 when you were helping out for months teaching English to the poor tea plantation children in Darjeeling. Now you are going to do YOUR project in Haiti when everyone is going to learn from each other. I am sure your healing hands combined with your knowledge will enable you to move on successfully. Hope the heat and the critters do not impinge on your modus operandi. Tinaxx
