I will be running a half marathon for the Bridge Bully Rescue and am looking for pledges to help me support their dog rescue.
Auckland
My name is Nicole and I am raising funds to assist an organization that is close to home. I am looking for pledges, as I will be running the Mount Half Marathon on Queen's Birthday Weekend in support of the Bridge Bully Rescue. This will be my 4th half marathon, all of the others were for 'me,' and it is time for me to run for someone else.
The Bridge Bully Rescue is operated by one of my colleagues and her friends. She shows me pictures every day of the beautiful dogs she has rescued and rehomed. She recently rescued a pregnant pitbull who came from a home where she was beaten. She now has 11 puppies, and all 12 dogs are at my colleagues house. I remember thinking, what a lovely gig you have, cuddling puppies all day. Then the other day, she shared with me that she may have to make the call to put the mum dog down because she doesn't reckon anyone will want to adopt her.
Yesterday, she found the forever home for the mum, and has adopted out a few of the puppies as well! My colleague shared with me that the adoption fee just barely covers all of the vet fees - and for the mum dog, it doesn't even cover half of the bills. She said, most of her bills come out of pocket. I already thought she was an amazing person for taking on these pups, but when I heard that, I thought, I need to help in whatever way I can. Especially because she has never asked for help in any way - she is so humble about what she does, and wouldn't change it for anything. She's a true hero and I look up to her for this, and want to do my part in helping her on this beautiful venture.
A bit of information about Bridge Bully Rescue:
A small team of friends who are passionate about dogs, with a special place in our hearts belonging to ‘bully breeds’ and rescue dogs. Living in Auckland we are faced with the vast amount of backyard breeders and neglected dogs every day, the majority of these belonging to the bully breed family. ‘Bridge Bully Rescue’ is a small dog rescue focused on rescuing bully breeds from the wider Auckland area, ensuring they are brought up to become amazing family dogs. All our rescue dogs are housed in our own family homes where they are exposed to busy daily life, other animals and children of all ages while waiting for their forever home.
Bridge Bully Rescue is also about ‘bridging’ the gap and bringing awareness to the amazing family dogs that bully breeds are. Unfortunately, these days Bully Breeds have a bad reputation (thanks a lot media and irresponsible dog owners), but they are in fact some of the most relaxed and family-friendly dogs around.
All the costs associated with rescuing our pups come out of our own pockets, with the adoption fee covering just the bare minimum. We are of course beyond grateful if people decide to donate to our cause, any donations really do make the world of difference. If you are able to donate, whether it be monetary, food, bedding, toys etc etc, you can contact us at bridgebullyrescue@gmail.com
You can like their page on Facebook, and donate here in support of my run for the pups.
My colleague is one of the directors of the Bridge Bully Rescue organization, and her stories of rescue pups have hit close to home. They do all of the work for these pups out of the goodness of their own heart and are often out of pocket, and I want to help them raise funds to save and rehome more dogs.
Funds will be used for Half marathon fees and some small training costs. Approximately $300 will be the cost of the entrance fee and training costs. All funds raised over the $300 mark will benefit Bridge Bully Rescue for them to put to use where they see fit within their organization.
