Help me provide a New Future to Rescued dogs Far Away

Look into those precious eyes, so sad and full of yearning. I see them. I can help them. Can you help me help them?

The numbers are staggering. There are thousands upon thousands of stray dogs in Israel. Some born to the streets, others were once pets, thrown out like an inconvenient object. Alone, confused, broken hearted, what chance do they have? The lucky ones are rescued by charities such as the ‘LET THE ANIMALS LIVE’ association*. Saved from extremely harsh life of danger, hunger, abuse, neglect and eventual death on the unforgiving streets, or from abusive ‘homes’. Once saved, the dogs are placed in cells at the shelters, awaiting adoption by caring people. The cells at the shelters are safe but small. The summers are incredibly hot and the winters are bitterly cold. They wait. And they wait. Sometimes months, sometimes years, sometimes their entire lives all they know is waiting.

Demi was rescued from death-row at a local pound by Let the Animals Live when she was a few months old. She had two severely broken legs and a skin disease that made her fur fall off. Now one year old, a cute and bouncy girl, with just 3 legs (one of her hind legs was so badly damaged, it had to be removed) and a beautiful shiny healthy coat, she deserves a home. Spike is 6 years old and has been waiting in his cell for 5 whole years. Kinder is a fearful dog you have to wonder what horrible life he had before being saved and taken to the shelter. Vincent was found emaciated on the streets, skinny and sick, one ear eaten to the bone by maggots. Florence was dumped at the pound with hundreds of other dogs, neglected to her fate, starved, covered in fleas and ticks and barely alive. Sandra was found with her head stuck in an empty cookie jar. For days she was caged in that horrific state. 8 years old Max was dumped by his cruel family. He is a gentle soul that needs a loving home. He finds the crowded, hot and noisy cell difficult. These are just a handful of cases. The stories go on and on. The angels from Let The Animals Live saved their lives. Now they are looking for a loving home.

I want to help. I can adopt those unlucky ones who might otherwise perish waiting, and bring them here to paradise on earth, New Zealand. I can offer them the gift of life, life of safety abundant with love and free from harm.

I am sure some of you are asking yourselves: are there no dogs needing saving in New Zealand? Why bother with dogs from the other side of the world?… it would certainly be cheaper! – You are right. There are dogs needing saving in New Zealand, and they are gorgeous and worth it, each one. But the problem in Israel is critical and desperate. The heat is unbearable in the crowded-to-capacity cells and dogs are fading away. There are so many dogs needing shelters but no more room. This cause is less about me bringing the dogs here, more about me taking the dogs out of there.

You might wonder why invest in those strays? They are not pure breeds, they have no financial value. Well, look at them. Look into their eyes. They are amazing, and they deserve it, their Happily Ever After…

A very rough estimate of $6500 would cover two dogs for flights, treatment and quarantine on arrival.

I have contacted the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and I know the required procedures. It is complicated and as expected-bureaucratic, but not impossible. Let’s do this!

Thank you very much for your help.

*The LET THE ANIMALS LIVE association was founded in 1986 in Israel and is a non-profit organization which has set itself the goal of providing help to distressed animals, rehabilitating them and finding them adoptive homes.

August 2015 donations transferred  24 September 2015

Thank you to all you kind and generous donors.

The final amount that was so kindly donated in August 2015 (NZD 90) has been transferred to Let the Animals Live. This means that there are no more funds left to transfer and the cause is now closed.

One can never succeed if one does not try. I tried, and it was not enough. I am at least grateful that during my journey people became more aware of the problem of stray dogs in Israel, and generally in the world.

Please, always opt for adoption and not purchase of dogs. Be kind to them. Thank you so much.

Maya
