Harbour Habitat - Orton Bradley Park Native Forest Restoration Project

$240 of $30,000 goal
Given by 8 generous donors in around 8 months

Buy a tree to restore a forest in Orton Bradley Park

Canterbury

Orton Bradley Park would like the community to help create a new native forest for all to enjoy. We are seeking crowd funding to establish this forest on the park. We are asking that you donate $10 per tree, for as many trees as you would like to pay for. That $10 goes towards preparing the land before planting, the seedling, and tree rescue the following 2 years after planting (rescue the trees from the weeds!).

A track will run through this forest so you will be able to see first hand how the forest grows from seedlings to small to medium then tall forest over many years.

This is a multi-year project. We hope to raise money every year, for planting the following year – seedlings take time to develop from a seed to a seedling to be ready for planting out in our forest area.

The benefits of establishing this native forest are many. This forest will add to the variety of native plants in the area (biodiversity), provide shelter and food (habitat) for birds and insects, stabilise the soil from erosion, help clean the water that runs down the hill to the river, as the forest grows it will be absorbing carbon dioxide (which is a major greenhouse gas) therefore helping reduce the impacts of climate change, it will provide a nice place to walk, it will look nice from afar.

We are raising money in 2018 to plant trees in August 2019. We will be asking for help in planting closer to the time.

Use of funds

Money raised will go towards the establishment of the restored forest - $10 per tree, which will pay for the site preparation, seedling, planting, and tree rescue. The goal is to raise enough money to plant 3000 trees.
