Support the players of the North Harbour Mens NHL Team for the 2015 campaign.
Auckland
The National League Hockey (NHL) represents the pinnacle of domestic hockey in NZ. Our North Harbour NHL Teams are the face of the regional organisation at the highest level of representation. North Harbour Hockey boasts over 4000 members and is currently has one of the highest membership numbers throughout hockey in NZ. Every year many talented athletes have the opportunity to trial and play for North Harbour NHL Teams, and representing your region at this level is a huge honor as most have progressed through the age groups with the goal of reaching this level and playing for the NHL Men's team.
Being selected involves 4 months of hard training as well as travelling to various parts of the country to play. There is no financial gain for any players and in fact a large time and financial cost. This year the Tournament week is in Whangarei with an estimated cost of $48000 for per team. This is heavily subsidized by the North Harbour Hockey Association, however there is a player cost of approx. $15000 per team. We are hoping to gain support from the North Harbour community to get these talented men to tournament so they can play at the highest level and prove themselves against the best in NZ and also for some, gain higher representative honors with National selections. That being said the team would be more than happy to do some private coaching or other means of compensation for a contribution towards their campaign. The team has a real passion for hockey and the region of Harbour.
The Men’s NHL competition play for the Challenge Shield which has history of over 100 years. It is the longest standing National prize within NZ sporting history. In 2015 the Harbour NHL Men’s team is looking to improve on their previous performances and results. With a high quality group to select from and the intense physical and mental strain as well as preparation for the tournament itself, we are reaching out to the members of North Harbour Hockey who are interested in supporting the team and aiding the growth of Hockey on the North Shore.
The bulk of our team members are also members of the Harbour Hockey clubs and several are also involved in coaching areas within Harbour Hockey, there is a great deal of time put back into the Harbour Hockey community that is often unrewarded.
The NHL team represents the talent and hard work that comes out of North Harbour Hockey. They spend a huge amount of time and effort training for the tournament that shapes how the rest of New Zealand views the strength of the association and its ability to move forward. Most of you will know the members of the team as they have represented Harbour for a long time, your help for them would be much appreciated as they continue to represent the Harbour at the top level.
Sincerely North Harbour NHL Men's.
We at North Harbour Hockey want to see our NHL Teams succeed. Any support of our players is hugely appreciated and reducing player costs is a major goal of ours to see happen to ensure players are best prepared and ready to compete at the highest level.
Words from Cory Bennett 30 July 2015
To me playing NHL for harbour is all about pride. It's a relatively rare thing to find someone who has only played for one association ever and I'm happy to be part of this group. Another thing I often think of is the age group reps. I wasn't always in the top teams but put the work in and can now proudly say I'm part of the best 20 or so players in the association. This is something I take great pride in and don't take for granted. The same goes for NZ representations. I work hard to not be the best at what I do, but to make sure I fulfill any potential I may have. Playing for both of these shirts isn't just about playing for yourself but every person that came before you and every player, young or old, that would kill to be in my position.
