Hard times, death in family and now diagnosed with cancer
Hawke's Bay
Mr Eykel was admitted to hospital in Mrach after a number of falls with suspected broken bones. He had been unwell in general for over a year.
It was found he had metastatic bowel cancer which had spread to lungs, liver and bones - hence the bones crumbling away.
He died 8 days after admittance. This was a huge shock to Mrs Eykel as she had no idea of the nature of the illness, he had hidden from everyone, including doctors.
Then she has recently been diagnosed with cancer herself and went into hospital for surgery.
She could do with some extra home help during this time, she is only eligible for one hour a week .
This has been hopeless, cleaning not done and I had to paint as well as clean while I was there.
Her son helps as he can, but he is disabled, as very poor sight now and limited use of hands due to Dupuytren's contracture so his help is limited.
She has had severe arthritis for over 40 years, and cannot stand or walk for long, cannot move at all in the mornings, this is not fixable by surgery, being mainly in her spine - lumbar, thoracic and cervical.
She has it in her hands also now.
Funding will be used to get private homecare from Dream Team Cleaning during recovery.
I am her daughter, of course I am going down to help out as I can but cannot stay the 3 months due to health issues with my own husband.
Funds will be used for 26 August 2015
Home Cleaning while she recovers from the surgery.
The govt funding ones, several of them, different agencies have been hopeless.
While I was there had to not only clean, but paint, it was so filthy.
Liaised with hospital etc but they are limited in their control of it.
So Dream Team Cleaning will be doing the cleaning weekly for several weeks at our cost.
