Hi,
Harley has had his ups and downs in the past few weeks and he has some GOOD NEWS. He went to school for the first time since he was diagnosed. He lasted half a day and later on developed a blood nose and bleeding gums. Off to Tauranga hospital for blood transfusions to fix him up (that was a late night)but the Transfusions only last a few days.
It takes a day when he goes to hospital, blood samples take time to check a full blood count. If he gets platelets it takes time to chill them from storage and an hour for the transfusion, 3 hours for red blood cells.
We would like to give a big shout out to the awesome nursing staff at Tauranga hospital, Starship and the rest of the country. Another big thank you to the kind people that donate blood.
Harley looks pale & shuffles around when his blood levels are low. As soon as he receives his bloods, the colour comes back to him and he’s jumping off the hospital bed like a tick.
GOOD NEWS, Harley has a bone marrow donor. The donor has consented to the transplant and operation dates are booked in. Harley has to maintain his health, taking his pills and medicines, his eating could be better but you can’t eat when you feel full. If procedures and logistics work out Harley will begin his treatment in 4 weeks!
Thank you everyone for your kind and generous donations. We are at the beginning of Harley’s treatment plan, let’s hope it all goes smoothly.
Kind regards,
Tony, Panda and Harley.
