Tropical Cyclone Harold, the strongest one ever to make landfall in Vanuatu. Aid proving to be difficult to arrange amidst COVID19 outbreak.
International
Vanuatu has been hit by one of the strongest recorded storms to ever make landfall on the tiny Pacific nation, even forcing the government to suspend corona-virus social distancing measures.
I have friends who have contacted me, pleading for help. They are currently disconnected from their familys who are in Asanvari village with no communication water or food supplies.
A group of the family members who work in port villa but have family in Asanvari are trying to gather together a kitty for supplies and transport costs so they can go to support their family's on the island.
With the COVID19 issues it is proving to be very difficult to arrange any help.
I hope, in this difficult time we are having here in NZ, you can see the pain these people must be going through while we are bunked up happily in our homes.
They will need to rebuild at some time soon hopefully, but for now we just need to get them some cash to help get them through to there family and provide them with aid.
Things are tough for many Kiwis with lost job etc, but I'm sure we can help. Even if its just $5, it will make all the difference for these familys.
Tropical Cyclone Harold packed winds of up to 250 kilometers per hour and was approaching the strength of a Category 5 hurricane, making it the strongest one ever to make landfall on Santo.
Harold strengthened even further during the day as it headed over Asanvari Village, with winds increasing up to 270 kph and gusts peaking over 300 kph!
All the while COVID19 is finding its home in these people who have limited sanitation and medical supplies. I'm sure we can find help for these people!
Kia Kaha to everyone struggling at this difficult time.
We are friends from when we sail through Vanuatu.
Fund will be used on transport, shelter, water and food supplies.
Any surplus will be used to rebuild and repair what they have lost.
