Kaha Sisters breast cancer survivor dragonboat crew on a mission to paddle at International Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Festival in France '26

Hawke's Bay

Who We Are

Kaha Sisters are a team of 12 Hawke’s Bay breast cancer survivors united in our passion for dragon boating representing strength, sisterhood, and the powerful spirit that carries us forward.

We paddle together as part of the Hawke’s Bay Dragon Boat Club, where we’ve experienced firsthand how dragon boating supports recovery - building strength, reducing lymphoedema, boosting mental wellbeing, and connecting all cancer survivors in a circle of support. We train three times per week and take seriously our commitment to our fellow club members and each other.

Kaha Sisters will be one of the NZ teams competing at the International Breast Cancer Dragon Boat Festival in France, 2026—a global gathering of breast cancer survivor teams. We will be competing alongside 320 teams from 37 different countries, a total of 4500 breast cancer paddlers. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we need your help to get there.

This journey to France represents not just a competition and participation, but a celebration of survival, resilience, and connection with a global sisterhood.

We need to raise $80k+ to help get our Kaha Sisters for this once in a lifetime (for many of us) to join the International sisterhood in France. We paddle for all survivors, our sisters going through current breast cancer journey, and in memory of those that we have lost to breast cancer or other cancer. This will cover travel, accommodation, training sessions in the build up and our uniforms.

Use of funds

We need to raise around $7k for each of 12 paddlers. We will travel, stay, train and compete as a crew at Aix les Bains. This opportunity would not be possible for our paddlers without financial support from Friends of the Kaha Sisters & Sponsors/ Donors.
