Haydens first selection trip with Nz rifle team
Masterton, Wellington
Hi
My name is Hayden Greenwood. I am a competition Target Rifle shooter. Shooting to 1000yards with a 308 win target rifle.
5 years ago I had an accident out hunting breaking my back herniated all my L series disc's damaged my tailbone and broke my hip.
After acc medical misadventure I lost feeling on the inside of my left leg due to them cutting part of my spinal cord. Also caused central serious retinopathy which split my right eye in half which has made blind in the center of my right eye. Im right handed have been hunting and shooting for 30 years right handed now I cant see.
So with those side effects ive had to learn how to shoot left handed as i still want to hunt.
My uncle Buster Sutherland won bronze in the empire games in 1966 so I thought what a brilliant way to relearn how to shoot than to try fullbore target rifle shooting.
I started off with a borrowed rifle, jacket and started to learn the basics. I. Picked it up and started to thrive. With broken bones still the sport has given me a purpose to train and in 2.5 years I have made it into the new zealand rifle team. We are heading to Australia to shoot the kings matches and empire match. Which used to be part of the British empire games, then became the commonwealth games. Sadly they removed it from the games.
I want to win a medal for nz just like my uncle did also want to help the team win gold for the team shoot.
I have already paid $6000 from selling gear that I no longer use. I require about 12k in total this covers ammunition, accommodation, rental car, flights, entry fees, new barrel and our uniform. The funds raised will go towards the above for future events/competitions as well.
