Support Hayley Mackey's pursuit to the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Whakatane, Bay Of Plenty
Hayley Mackey is making her first appearance for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022.
Born and bred in Whakatane, Hayley began her judo at Whakatane Judo Club as a 10 year old. She came to the fighting instinct and skills naturally. As a young teenager, she created the goal of getting to the Commonwealth Games. She prioritized her sport over other social activities to remain focused and healthy for her sport. She volunteered twice a week as an assistant coach with the juniors at her club. Even now, when she visits home, she volunteers her time to coach and talk to the judokas about their judo goals.
Hayley moved to Christchurch to train at Premiere Equipe Judo Club. She has taken a pause in studying at the University of Canterbury where she is planning complete a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology.
Hayley has recently returned from competitions in Europe and Africa and training in England. After a great result winning Bronze in the African Open in Algeria, she gained her qualification for the Games. In order for Hayley to focus on her Judo to prepare for the Commonwealth Games, support is needed for all the costs associated in the pursuit leading up to the Games. She has self funded the majority from working 2-3 jobs at a time as a student. Now, it's time for Hayley to peak and focus as a full time athlete on her Judo so she can be the best that she can be and fighting strong. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Hayley is a Whakatane Judo Club former member and still part of the Judo club family. She's a dedicated athlete and we want to support her.
