Thank you for your contribution in helping to repair and reinstate the headstone of William & Rachel Judge.

I am happy to send an update and let you know that the work has been completed and the headstone stands proudly as it did back in 1899.

The ground below the headstone is now solid and the headstone has metal rods through it, so it won't be moving anywhere. The Stonemason has reported that when he gathered all the pieces to repair it, there was one piece missing so he has had to do a little bit of extra work to complete it, but he is very happy with the final result considering the state it was in.

The only comment he did make was that the wrought iron fence work surrounding the headstone now looks a bit tired. He has quoted us $500 to kill the rust and re-paint it if we wanted to get this done.

I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone for joining me on this project, with the hope that one day we may be able to meet in Invercargill at the cemetery where our ancestors are laid to rest.

    Thanks

    Sharon

  • First steps for our Headstone Restoration to begin

      13 February 2021

    Hello,

Thanks to all of the contributions towards the restoration work of William and Rachel Judge's headstone to date. Next week we will see a start to the ground work for the headstone. The broken pieces have been removed by the Stone Mason for safe keeping, while the ground is levelled and a new base for the repaired headstone will sit.

I've been trying to reach out to some of the other branches of the family to get others involved. Any help here would be great :)

    Thanks again

    Sharon
