Supporting Melissa through her diagnosis of breast cancer and treatment of chemotherapy.
Nelson / Tasman
We have recently received the difficult news of my dear sister Melissa being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Melissa is only 46 years old and lives in France with her awesome husband Matt and two gorgeous young daughters, Lily and Piper. Melissa never complains and has been so generous to all those around her over the years.
Since their move to France Melissa has been the earner with her husband Matt taking care of their beautiful girls. Melissa has been trying to figure out how they will cover all their expenses while she goes through the next few months receiving chemotherapy for an aggressive type breast cancer. Not only does she have the everyday expenses but she also has to consider the medical costs. The injections to keep up her white blood cells alone cost 900 euros and the chemotherapy treatment will cost approximately 15,000 euros. Typical of Melissa, all she can think about is everyone else and it is my wish that she is able to take care of herself and be as stress free as possible.
Obviously this has been devastating for her darling husband Matt and Melissa is hoping Matt will not have to return to work over this time as it would require him going back to London. I am hoping he can remain with his family to continue to support Melissa and the girls for however long it takes for Melissa to recover.
I am not in a financial position to help her personally but I want to help alleviate any stress so she can focus on taking care of herself and concentrate on her and her family. I know she has difficulty asking for help so I hope this can help her even if in a small way, I know it will mean so much. She is a beautiful sister and I know she will have the strength to come through this with love and support all around.
Today she begins her first day of chemotherapy and it is hard to have her so far away. Melissa loves her homeland and family back here in New Zealand but she needs to remain where she is because France is home for her and her family and has been for some time.
I will keep you updated on Melissa's progress and I'm sure she won't mind. I would say she possibly feels some shame in me going ahead and setting this up but I hope this will help to take away the added stress of her having to find a way to provide for her lovely family. I have let her know I wanted to start this for her.
My love and prayers are with you today my dear sis Melissa xx.
I am Melissa's sister and want to help her in any way possible because she is so precious to me and to so many people that are part of her life.

Hi Mindy, thanks so much as I know this makes all the difference for Mel even though she feels some shame in accepting the help. As I told her people want to help because they care and love her. She is due to pay for her next injection so I know this means so much to her combined with the love she receives from such an awesome family xxx love Brigette xx
