Maori in the Middle East - Experienced carver Katz Maihi searches for indigenous artists to collaborate with in Israel/Palestine.

Auckland

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!

What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people! It is the people! It is the people!

The One World Project is a 12-part documentary series where 12 Maori artists will immerse themselves into 12 indigenous cultures who are struggling to keep their art forms alive.

We are fundraising for our pilot programme, a 52min doco and our first Maori artist is experienced carver and ta moko (tattoo) artist Arekatera "Katz" Maihi who is heading to Israel/Palestine to find traditional olive wood carvers. In his studio in NZ, Katz designs a pou (totem) that will consist of 5 individual pieces - the pou will symbolise, courage, unity and friendship.

He will carve his piece first, then take his four pieces of native NZ wood, to the Holy Land - Israel/Palestine where he will search for 4 traditional wood carvers to finish the pou.

Katz is unaware of the hardships in Israel/Palestine and has no direct connection with the Middle East. Will his “indigenousness” be enough to cross all barriers?

We need your help to send Katz & the crew to the Holy Land! And you will be coming along with us as we will be providing exclusive "behind the scenes" updates to our donors.. there are other rewards offered, on a tier scale, but everyone that donates, will have access to Katz and the crew while they are in the Holy land.

Our team is funding the journey themselves, but with your help, funds raised will be used for living costs in the Holy Land, and the actual filming and the editing of the programme.

Kia ora! I am the Producer of the small but passionate, slightly crazy crew, Roy Taoho, Shirley Allen, Tamara Azizan and Ash Stewart who will be following Katz on this amazing journey! Our SM manager, Tepara Koti will hold the fort from Auckland!

Our team is funding the journey themselves but we need a little help to push it over the line. We want to make a series, but we need help with the first one...Katz carves it up in the Holy Land.
