Helena needs a dentist

  • My lil toothless

Surgery went well! Helena has quite a few less teeth now, but has kept her canines and little front ones. She was very high for a very long time after getting home, and she was having a BLAST. Her appetite appears to have grown too!

She's been allowed back outside and is very appreciative of that fact. Hardly a moment I'm home that Helena isn't close by; she has continued to be an absolute smooch, headbutting me and accepting tummy and chin scritches.

I know I say this every time, but I am truly, indescribably grateful to everyone who helped us make this happen. Sharing, donating, sending me a message of support. I haven't been able to respond to your comments yet but I will, I promise!

All of this is still incredibly overwhelming, nigh on unbelieveable, but Hel and I both have to adjust to our new reality.

Love, peace, and prosperity to all 💖

  • Home!

      21 October 2020

Helena is home, which makes me so overjoyed because I missed her so much. She had surgery today (Wednesday) and is still coming off her pain killer medication, but she's eating some of her favourite foods and I'm going to keep her in my room, her safe place, overnight until she's less wobbly and more reacquainted with her surroundings

We're on our way to the specialist today. He wants to take her into surgery. Heres hoping all goes well.

Thank you to everyone who has shared, donated and helped in all other ways to get Hel to this point. I am immeasurably grateful, and I'm sure Hel will be too

  • We have an appointment!

At the SPCA vet yesterday they sent a referral through to the specialist, Angus, and they've squeezed us in for Tuesday the 20th!!

It's not confirmed that Hel will have the procedure done that day, but I've been told she needs to fast from 9pm the night prior so its promising.

I am both terrified and excited while also being so goddam scared for my little love. Anyone that's seen me with her or talk about her knows how much she means to me, she is my closest living creature.

Please keep Hel in your thoughts on Tuesday, prayers to Freya for her care are welcome too.

    Nga mihi nui koutou

  • Our latest vet visit

We had an appointment up at SPCA Wellington because all the meds Helena had from the visit prior had worn off and her inflammation was back, badly.

Once again, the vet said this is the worst case of this she'd ever seen.

We have had a referral to the dental specialist put through and fingers crossed we can get her surgery booked in for the near future.

With every donation, I have shed a tear or several of joy, hope, and thankfulness for the kindness of my friends and strangers alike who are chipping in to help. I can't thank each and every one of you just how much your kindness and generosity means to me, and how much improvement it will bring Helena after her procedure. Though we are coming up to a third of the fundraising goal, I feel comfortable going ahead with booking the surgery and throwing ever spare cent I have (after basic necessities) into it.

There is a chance that tooth extraction will not be the complete cure and follow up care may be needed, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

You are all absolute treasures and again, I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and messages of support
