Helen, a beloved teacher and devoted mum, is fighting Stage 4 cancer and needs help to access immunotherapy not funded in New Zealand.
Nationwide
Our beautiful friend Helen, a dedicated teacher at Western Heights Primary School in Auckland and a loving mum to her only son, is facing the fight of her life.
In 2021, Helen was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy and radiation. At the end of 2024, she received the devastating news that the cancer had returned — now at Stage 4. Although the road ahead is uncertain, hope remains in the form of immunotherapy treatment. Reaching out for help was not an easy decision, but immunotherapy now offers her the best chance to extend her life. Unfortunately, this treatment comes at a significant cost and Helen's type of cancer is not publicly funded in New Zealand.
We are asking for your help to raise the funds needed to access this potentially life-extending treatment. Every donation, no matter the size, will help ease the financial burden and give Helen the best possible chance to keep fighting.
Please give what you can, and share this page with your networks. Thank you for standing with Helen.
As Helen’s coworker and friend of eight years, I’ve seen firsthand her strength, dedication, and kindness—now she needs our support more than ever.
Funds will go towards specialist appointments and the cost of Keytruda.
End of Year Update 11 December 2025
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share an update on my treatment.
Earlier this year, I began chemotherapy alongside an unfunded immunotherapy drug called Keytruda, which I have been fundraising for in my fight against Stage 4 cancer. Unfortunately, my body reacted severely to the chemotherapy, making it unsafe to complete the full chemotherapy plan. This was really tough news to take, but I am extremely grateful to be able to continue with immunotherapy, which is now even more important. The plan is to remain on this treatment for around the next 18 months.
Some positive news—recent scans have been encouraging, and with ongoing treatment, the hope is that immunotherapy will continue to work and keep things heading in the right direction.
I’m continuing to fundraise so these treatments can carry on over the coming months, and I am deeply thankful for all the support I have received through donations, messages, and check-ins. Your generosity has carried me through challenging moments and reminded me of the incredible community around me.
As we approach the Christmas season, I wish you and your loved ones a safe and joyful break. I am holding onto hope for a brighter, healthier 2026 and am grateful to have you walking alongside me on this journey.
Much love,
Helen
