Helen’s Fight for More Time

  • Update about Helen

      10 November 2025

Many of you know Helen for her warmth, wit, and wonderfully quirky sense of humour. Over the past months, she has been facing one of the toughest battles of her life while continuing treatment for cancer — a journey filled with challenges, setbacks, and unexpected twists.

One of those twists came when what was meant to be a simple Portacath surgery turned into a long, painful day followed by a difficult recovery. Soon after, Helen was told her cortisol levels were dangerously low, raising fears of a rare and serious condition called Adrenal Insufficiency. Thankfully, after further tests, the results proved temporary — but the stress and uncertainty took a real toll.

Through it all, Helen has shown incredible courage and resilience, meeting every hurdle with humour and heart. This page has been set up to help ease the financial strain of ongoing treatment, allowing her to focus on rest, recovery, and continuing to share her stories that make us laugh and cheer her on.

Thank you for standing beside Helen as she continues this fight with strength, grace, and her unmistakable spark.

  • Update on Helen

      29 September 2025

Hi everyone, just wanted to give you all an update on how Helen is going. She is doing really well and has now had 4 out of her 8 chemo sessions. There have been a few hiccups along the way, but overall things are looking really positive.

The best news is that her recent scans showed the cancer cells have shrunk — in some areas by half! Such a huge relief and definitely something worth celebrating.

Alongside her chemo sessions, Helen has also been having immunotherapy. This treatment helps her body track down any cancer cells that might be hiding. It's estimated that she'll need 21 treatments which is what we are fundraising for. Each treatment costs around $10,000 and she has already ticked off 4.

To make things a bit easier, she’s had a portacath which means no more needles every time she has treatment. This device allows healthcare providers to administer treatments and draw blood without repeated needle sticks, making the process more comfortable and efficient.

Thanks so much for all the love and support you’ve been sending Helen’s way — it means the world to her and her family. 💕

    Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share a quick update.

On Thursday, I had my very first chemotherapy session – it was a long 6-hour day but I made it through. Then on Friday, I had my first immunotherapy treatment. It took two tries and a bit of hunting to find a vein (ouch!), but we got there in the end.

Thank you all so much for the ongoing love, kindness, and support. I truly can’t express how much it means to me – it’s been a real source of strength during this time.

    With love and gratitude,

    Helen 🌸

  • An Update on Helen’s Journey

      11 July 2025

Next week, Helen will begin her chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. She is currently able to self-fund 5 to 6 immunotherapy sessions, each costing around $10,000.

However, the recommended course includes approximately 21 treatments. The funds raised through Givealittle will go towards covering the additional treatments beyond what Helen can afford on her own.

Please continue to share this page with your networks.

Every contribution brings Helen closer to completing this vital treatment plan.

Thank you for supporting her on this journey.
