Help 1yr old Asher fight a rare brain cancer

The best radiation treatment for 1yr old Asher’s brain cancer is only available overseas. Help him get there!

Wellington

This precious boy was 14 months old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour in June 2020. It turned out to be a rare cancer called ATRT (Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumour). Asher’s family are devastated.

The tumour was removed only a few days after diagnosis however this cancer is known to be very aggressive which means Asher is going through intensive chemotherapy for 6 months and will need radiation too.

Radiation therapy will increase Asher’s chance of survival. Because of his young age, the best option for Asher is proton therapy. Unfortunately this type of radiation is not available in New Zealand. With this knowledge, we’re raising funds to help get the Green family overseas to a clinic that offers proton therapy (likely in the US) so that Asher can get the best treatment for his age and diagnosis.

Asher has had many challenges during his treatment so far, but through it all he has continued to have a smile on his face! He has accrued over 500 beads of courage already, representing the many tests, procedures and experiences he’s been through in the three months since his diagnosis. The resilience and endurance he has shown is an inspiration to us all!

Any donations received will go towards treatment, flights and living costs for the Green family while overseas. Any additional funds remaining after expenses will be donated to Child Cancer Foundation and Ronald McDonald House who have been a great support to the Green family.

Thanks so much for all your support.

Update - good news!  25 October 2020

First and foremost, thank you all so so much for all your generous donations. We have been blown away by the support from friends, family, colleagues and strangers. We are so blessed.

So much has happened since the start of June 2020 till now.

Talia and Jordan have worked tirelessly during the ups and downs caring for Asher and researching the best treatment options. Asher has accrued over 700 beads of courage over his time so far, he really has been an amazing trooper through it all.

This past week has given us two things to be very grateful for: one being that it's Ashers last round of chemo and two, much to our surprise, the NZ Government has agreed to cover the cost of Asher’s treatment in the US through the High-Cost Treatment Pool. We praise God for this.

There will still be a lot of additional expenses for the Green family so the give a little funds will go towards those, but they should have enough so we will now close the page. Any funds remaining will be donated to Ronald McDonald House and the Child Cancer Foundation.
