Help Fred and Lauren live through Aplastic Anemia
Canterbury
If Clive Barrington Construction is a family business then Fred Johnston is one of our brothers and he needs a hand.
Fred is a carpenter of the utmost skill with capabilities that stretch far beyond the norm. More importantly however, as a member of our team - as a bloke - Fred is a top man. He served his apprenticeship with Clive Barrington Construction starting back in 2011 and since then has risen through the ranks to become a Leading Hand entrusted with the construction of one of our Foremen's houses as well as a trusted colleague and friend. Fred is just one of those guys who can lift a site just by walking onto it.
Back in 2013 Fred was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia a disease which causes a failure of his bone marrow to produce red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets leading to fatigue, an increased risk of infection and in some cases uncontrolled bleeding and bruising. He received immunosuppressive treatment back in 2013 which allowed him to lead a relatively normal life (notwithstanding 27 blood transfusions and 34 platelet transfusions) eventually returning to work full time in 2015 . Unfortunately in the past few months, Fred has suffered a relapse and is now hanging out for a bone marrow donor for a full cure.
Fred is a nuggety little bugger - he'd be all of 60 kilos ringing wet and yet he once took down our yardman in a fully unsanctioned grossly-weight-mismatched (there would be circa 40kgs between them) wrestling match. If he can drop Steve, we think he can drop kick this into touch too. But he and his lovely fiance Lauren need a hand. Money raised from this page will go directly to Fred and Lauren to help funding living costs while Fred is unable to earn a crust.
Your donation could be covering anything from groceries, to a mortgage to a power bill but every little bit helps.
I am the General Manager of Fred's employer - Clive Barrington Construction
Fred doesn't drink, doesn't smoke and manages his health partially through a vegan diet. His treatment is funded and so any funds raised will go to he and Lauren to aid them in meeting living expenses while Fred is "out of the game".
Update - Fred Johnston 13 August 2020
Hi All.
Firstly, on behalf of Fred and Lauren I wanted to extend thanks to those who contributed and the many kind words that accompanied the financial assistance you provided. I know it meant a lot to them and the funds raised (probably well beyond our expectation when we set this page up) were greatly appreciated.
I am very sad to advise that our boy - our brother - Fred lost his battle and passed away on Monday afternoon.
Thanks again for your generosity thoughts and kind words. We will all remember Fred fondly as a skilled chippy, great leader and friend.
