I need to get a legal name change after putting it off for 8 years
Auckland
For 8 years I have been out presenting to the cis world as what they'd term a woman and more importantly not using my deadname as it tends to make life difficult for many cis people to try get my head around (and also because my preferred name is much more wonderful and feminine which I like and my deadname rather isn't)
Sadly the state is rather averse to people altering their names to suit who they are and quite dreadfully requires that I compensate them $170 for something the hospital did in like a minute.
Over the past 8 years I have done everything I can to avoid having to resort to crowdfunding which is a rather inelegant method of funding gender affirming care however with my weekly income precluding any savings and WINZ refusing to provide any assistance I have been forced reluctantly to get the bowl out.
I very much hope that we can get together and push the government to provide some meaningful progress on trans healthcare so that myself and others needn't have to resort to this again and in the meantime help me get across this hurdle so I have more brain space to devote to organising for meaningful trans care
Cost breakdown is as follows
$170 for the records to be updated
$38.20 to renew my drivers licence Important as it's my only photo ID and I do drive rather a lot and it really isn't pleasant dealing the police while having a deadname licence
$ 33 for a replacement birth cert to ensure my records are complete
Any cent over this to be paid foreword
To pay for legal name change and associated documents as listed in detail above
