Help a homeless pensioner and his dogs get a camper.

  • Ash is settled in his new home.

      9 September 2024

Ash was very grateful for all the contributions that helped him set up his new home. Pension doesn't pay much which is especially hard on people who never grew up with Kiwisaver. Going from living in a car to a small house obviously needed some funds to get furniture and besides the donations of furniture Ash was able to buy some things to set up his new home. Thank you!

  • Thank you everyone for your help!

      11 June 2024

Thanks to everyone's generosity Ash has been able to set up his new home pretty quickly. This page started off asking for help to get him a bigger vehicle to live in and the news article gave Kainga-ora a jump start in finding him a place [which had apparently been empty for 6 months]. Ash has use the money to furnish his home and is looking at getting his vehicle repaired or replaced.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards helping Ash with setting up his new home after having lived in his car up till now. The money has gone into my bank account and I have withdrawn as much as I can in one day and handed it on to him, $3000 so far and the rest I will draw tomorrow and hand over to him.

  • The story on stuff.co.nz

      20 May 2024

The donations have increased this morning after the story was released on stuff.co.nz. Ash's house is slowly getting set up and locals on the Ashburton noticeboard on Facebook have offered some household items as well. Hopefully the money will help repair or replace that car with the bad transmission https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350278751/homeless-pensioner-who-lived-car-dogs-year-gets-house?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2oSIZSLzkAFlxmv4BIcBLFK1_9hrl7EFc_u3zrMLx1JcHI9LOKs9TdXAM_aem_AWWDcWPNqDLoLQ4Au3dsszxVMnFSLfoskOOf_IoC3_LGSmr2oBf6yiLqME37b41lMEerYVFG626t4SmlqkyK1l1f

  • Ash has been given a home!

      17 May 2024
    Main image

10 days after starting this page and the news spreading around town, Kainga Ora contacted him to provide him with a place to live in [One that has apparently been empty for the last 6 months!]. I visited his new home yesterday and it's a nice little 1 1/2 bedroom place. Ashburton Lions are helping him with some furniture but he still has a lot to set up - since all his belongings fitted in his car previously. Sadly, his older dog passed away 3 days ago so he has a vet bill to pay off as well. Any further donations will go toward setting up his new place and hopefully a better vehicle, as his current vehicle makes a loud noise when it changes gear. Ashley has expressed his gratitude for everyone's generosity, so "Thank you".

After my interview with the Ashburton Guardian was aired Ash was suddenly contacted about a home he may be able to get. His vehicle still needs replacing though which is where any donations would come in really useful. This is the link to the interview https://fb.watch/s1uzlmV2Wb/

Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Last week the Ashburton Guardian published the story and in the evening I did a video interview with "Hoops", one of the presenters and received a message last night that they will publish the interview with a link to the page on Tuesday evening, 14 May. I will share the link when I have it.
