Trans woman racing for a podium at the 2024 world championship
Christchurch, Canterbury
My name is Alice - I've been racing karts since I was a little boy (and yes, you read that right!), and am the 2022 IORK New Zealand Women's Open champion.
I competed in my first ever indoor karting world championship in Belgium 2023, and my early pace suggested I'd be in with a chance for a podium in the women's category. Alas, a broken rib in the very first race put paid to that dream.
But I have not given up. The 2024 world championship is in Brazil, and I intend to finish what I started this year - putting a trans woman and a kiwi on the world championship podium.
In a world where trans participation in grass-roots sport is under threat, representation at high level events is now more vital than ever. And if I can inspire one other trans person to follow their sporting dreams, then I've achieved my goal
Preparation for, entry into and travel costs to reach the 2024 world championship in Brazil
