After one person’s reckless, grand theft auto night, my sister and her young family have been left without a car and out of pocket.
My sister Leah and her partner Jonathan have just recently moved home from Australia with their two children under three, to be closer to family and friends and to raise their kids where they themselves were raised. Moving is extremely expensive and with their last saved dollars, they bought a car, which they needed to get themselves to work and the children to early childhood education.
Last night someone stole a car and went for a joy ride down their street and crashed into at least seven cars including theirs. Because of this, they have had to send their car to the scrap yard, and the car that they bought for $4000 was reduced to $170. They have also had to take their children out of childcare because they no longer have transport and need that money to save for another car. Leah and Jonathan have third party and theft coverage but unfortunately, the insurance plan that they are on does not cover criminal damage. News article linked.
Anything you can spare would be extremely appreciated thank you.
Leah is my sister, she has just moved back to New Zealand with her family. Every last dime they had when into buying that car, now they have nothing.
This money will go towards getting a new car
