Help Aarush represent New Zealand Chess
New Plymouth, Taranaki
Aarush (age 11) has been selected by New Zealand Chess Federation to represent the country at the Commonwealth Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka from 16th to 26th May 2026, and needs your help to make his dream come true.
Aarush developed a natural interest in Chess and started playing at the age of 8. Initially he started playing with his dad at home, and then online through chess.com. In 2023, he joined the local chess club in New Plymouth.
Living in a regional centre was disadvantageous, as there are hardly any tournaments happening here compared to places like Auckland. But that did not stop him from travelling to other parts of the country to participate in tournaments.
Chronology of achievements:
Hawkes Bay Rapid Feb 2024 - 2nd place Juniors
Bay of Planty Rapid Feb 2024 - FIDE Rapid Rating
Trusts Open (Auckland) June 2024 - FIDE Standard Rating
FIDE Online Arena Sep 2024 - Arena FIDE Master (AFM) title awarded
Sarapu Cup (Whanganui) Nov 2024 - 1st place
Peter Stuart Memorial Reserve (Auckland) June 2025 - 1st equal B grade
North Island Championship July 2025 - 1st equal C grade
New Plymouth Chess Club Dec 2025 - Junior Club Champion
Many of his wins have come against opponents much older than him, and it is clear he needs more challenges.
Competitive chess can be expensive, as it requires professional coaching and travel for tournaments. To keep Aarush's chess journey sustainable and to fulfill his dreams representing New Zealand, we are fundraising on his behalf.
Aarush is my son
Money raised for Aarush will be spent on travel expenses for the tournament
